I just got off a 2 day run at Mysticfest again. It was a great time as always and I think I offered close to 30 readings over the course of the weekend. Now I've done Mysticfest a few times and each time, I learn something new about the runes and reading for others. I also forget things like hydration, eating, and closing down after the readings are through.
After the first day, I had not eaten anything and went to a paranormal presentation event at a local venue and prepped with a couple cocktails. This was poor judgement. I was still quite open and everything was pummeling me. I felt myself starting to get emotional and things though fun, were also intense. The next day before I started reading, I was still a bit of an emotional mess and had to get a friend to do Reiki on me and I had to do some serious grounding.
I was told that the event actually brough fourth some shadows that I needed to get over and I do agree with that. But I also know it would have been easier if I had closed up and did what I needed to do during the readings such as drink, eat, and close.
I always open my space before readings. Doing this includes creating a safe spiritual space, spraying spirit water, and grounding before taking the first reading. I also try to eat and get hydrated. But it's after the readings when the excitement of the end of day, chatting with other vendors, and getting things packed to leave that sometimes distracts from the important task of closing down ones self and the space.
After the Mysticfest weekend, I realized how important this is. I ended up becoming ill for 2 weeks after and I think it was a combination of "mystic fallout" and me getting rid of some things. I also was in front of hundreds of people over the weekend, so there's that.
So closing is an important part of any reading event. Even if it is for one person. To do this, one needs to simply take a private moment to ground. Feet flat on the floor and ignoring distractions. Thanking spirit and your guides for being there and dismissing others for the day. Deep breaths and a spiritual recharge help as well. Imagine a cleansing light streaming down from the top of your head to your toes. Also imagine any other person's energies falling off you and down into the earth. Use selenite, black tourmaline, or other grounding stones to seal the deal. If still feeling overwhelmed or anxious, I would also reccomend a salt bath when you get home.
Ritualize this process however you see fit, but remember to also add in self care before and during your readings. It will truly help. Pro tip: bring some chocolate. It helps keep you grounded and resets you for readings.
